If you’re eager to decorate for the holiday season, but are lost on which decorations to buy, fear not! You are not alone. As designers, we do this every year, and experience has brought us expertise, and expertise has brought us to you! We have compiled some of our most loved holiday décor items as well as a few tips and tricks on how to implement them into your Christmas design!
Elegant Simplicity
There is great beauty in simplicity. It has a calming effect on people. Too much décor or even too much “noise” in one item alone, is overwhelming. Follow the season’s motto and allow your home to reflect “Peace on Earth” with calming spaces that allow people to relax. Large ornaments can be amazing, but do not complicate them with multiple patterns and/or colors. One or two colors or one pattern in a single item is a good rule of thumb. For your space overall, stick to 3 colors or less and under five patterns per area (depending on the size of the area). Finally, mix it up with sizing. Varying large and small items adds interest and balance.
Natural Elements
What is Christmas without a Christmas Tree? Having multiple trees is a bonus, but ensure that they coordinate or compliment each other. Having a tree with sparkling lights adds a magical sensation to any space. We also love to adorn with other natural items (artificial or live) like evergreen wreaths, branch, garland, pinecones, pussy willow, or curly ting ting. These are charming both left as is or embellished further with faux snow or a neutral-colored glitter.
Light for the Season
Candles work seamlessly with any style, and they are amazing mood setters. If safely is a concern, we like to opt for electric candles. Sweetening the deal even more, some electric candles even have built-in timers! Large candle sticks can make the perfect décor piece for the dining table or mantel. String lights are a given with holiday décor. Rainbow colored lights are moving out and making way for classic white. These also come with timers, and you can leave them year-round lining your porch!
