The holidays are a time for family, friends, traditions, and celebrations. One of the best ways to kick the festivities off and get everyone in the spirit of the season is decorating! We love seeing homes decked out in all the things the seasons bring! Let’s be honest though, all the holidays packed into these last few months of the year require an overwhelming cycle of decorating, taking things down, and repeating. Don’t stress! We are here to help with some tips on how you can simplify your seasonal decorating process.
Start With Items You Already Own
Everyday décor in your home right now can be dressed up to fit the occasion with just a little creativity. Sort out your existing décor items that fit your color scheme. White and gold with color accents are very on trend right now. That white candle on your mantle will be ready for Thanksgiving surrounded by some colorful leaves. Tip that gold basket on its’ side and spill gourds and pumpkins from its’ edge. Small additions can change ordinary to extraordinary!
Buy Multi-Use Pieces You Love
If you find that pieces from your daily decorating need an upgrade, shop for items that won’t be tied to one specific time of year. Neutrally colored lanterns, vases, twine balls, etc. are all adaptable to various occasions. Instead of spending money on corn husks that will only succeed with your fall décor, opt for pampas grass or pussy willow branches that will later work seamlessly with your Christmas decorations as well!
Less Is More
Don’t cover every surface with trimming and tinsel! A space is much more pleasant to be in when your eyes have somewhere to rest. Bring the holiday spirit into your home, but don’t let it take over. Decorate your mantle but leave the side table near the fireplace as is. Remember, you still need space to function even during the holidays. You chose items you love, it would be tragic to take attention from them just to fill every empty space. In fact, minimalistic areas throughout the room draw more interest to them!
