Home renovations can be time consuming, money sucking, and overall disruptive to your life. No one likes remodeling or renovating, but instead they like the end result: a beautiful new space that makes you love your home and allows you to relax. After all, we spend so much time in our homes, why wouldn’t we want them to be as calming as possible? I often hear from potential clients that they “cannot afford an interior designer” for their renovation because they are already spending SO much money on the physical remodel. This totally makes sense! I personally know how expensive remodels can be, but I also know how important it is to make sure your new space is aesthetically and functionally perfect after a remodel. How tragic would it be if you finished a $10,000 remodel only to have numerous regrets about the color you chose, the appliances you selected or anything else? I have seen it happen time and time again inspiring today’s blog where I will inform you about 3 ways a designer like me can help you when renovating.
Saving you Money
We all love the sound of those two words. Money doesn’t grow on trees and most good designers are aware of that. In fact, I always start out by asking my clients their budget. After all, what good are my design selections if they are way over my clients budget. Budget comes first, because we live in real life and we have to be realistic. So, how does a designer save you money? Don’t you have to pay them? Yes you do, unfortunately we have to make a living somehow, but what most people don’t know is that we have connections with every manufacturer out there, that allows us to get you the best quality pieces (within your price range) at the best cost. This is everything from light fixtures, to flooring, to decorations. A lot of companies exclusively sell their products “to the trade” meaning to interior designers and interior design stores, that is the secret on how we get those amazing deals.
Saving you from Mistakes
A great designer measures twice and orders once. This is both a figurative and a literal reality for designers. I think I speak for all designers when I say we have all ordered something the wrong size at least once, so we now take extra precautions to make sure that doesn’t happen again. You are investing time and money into your remodel so make sure you do it right! An interior designer will also guide you on where it is smart to save money and where it is risky. They will also ensure that you don’t paint/design with “trendy” colors or patterns in your home that will be expensive to re-cover in 5 years when it’s no longer trendy. Instead, a good designer will incorporate your favorite color into your space through decorations, art and other smaller items that can easily be replaced when you tire of them. I once worked with a client who pulled me into the project at the last minute. After reviewing her plans I noticed she was planning to build a wall that would prevent her fridge door from opening. Thankfully, I was able to catch this before she paid to have the wall built, painted and than torn down again. From large mistakes like that to the tiny details, I will make sure your space is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
Adding Value to your Home
A good design will last for years to come. As a designer, my goal is not only to turn your dreams into reality, but to think ahead for the future. This goes back to why it is important to avoid “trendy” colors/patterns in concrete areas of your home and instead bring them in as accents. In 10+ years when you are trying to sell your home those “trendy” choices will be out of style and will deter potential buyers. When working with our designers, we will guide you to material choices that will increase the value of your property. This is yet another skill interior designers bring to the table. Think of us as guides to making your dreams come true through furniture and finishes that will stand the test of time, add value to your home, and come together to create one cohesive, beautiful space.
Interior Designers do so much more than decorate. We have years of experience and education that allows us to uniquely craft spaces that are beautiful and stand the test of time.
