Styled by the Parks: A Design Journey Through America’s Landscapes | Week 1: Yosemite National Park

Overview
Category

This week, our mood board translates Yosemite’s visual language into an interior design concept rooted in sustainability, reverence, and enduring beauty.

Few places in the world capture the raw power and serenity of nature quite like Yosemite National Park. Towering granite cliffs,mist-filled valleys, and ancient forests make it a destination not only for hikers and artists, but for designers, too. This week, our mood board translates Yosemite’s visual language into an interior design concept rooted in sustainability, reverence, and enduring beauty.

Vertical Space & Material Inspiration

A Grounded Palette of Stone, Wood, and Wilderness

Yosemite’s design essence lies in its contrast—sharp granite ridges softened by moss and cloud. Our mood board mimics this with vertical tilework like the Tilebar Acadia Thin Strip Mosaic, whose stacked composition nods to the monumental form of Half Dome. Softening these strong elements are textiles like FibreGuard's "Indulge" Plain Natural Velvet and Kvadrat's Ecriture upholstery, which bring an earthy tactility and warmth that mirror Yosemite’s quiet forest floor and sunlit meadows. A live-edge Teak Root Wedge table and PULO Disain sculptural lighting balance the space, anchoring it in organic form.

Sustainably Sourced, Naturally Inspired

Yosemite’s grandeur reminds us to design with intention and longevity. This comes through in our use of reclaimed wood for lighting and furniture elements, and recycled materials like the Claybrook “Arpino Faye” tile, which brings layered stone texture without environmental cost. The Tarkett Allium material is handmade to resemble fallen leaves on a forest floor, while also being known for its durability. These materials age gracefully—just like granite—and make a strong case for low-impact beauty.

Cultural Reverence

As the ancestral homeland of the Ahwahneechee people, Yosemite carries deep cultural significance. Our approach draws from indigenous principles—like flow, balance, and harmony with the land. This is reflected in design cues like subtle woven textures (see Tarkett’s Pebble Mesh) and intentionally open layouts. A space informed by cultural respect listens, flows, and honors.

Wildlife, Flora, and Ecological Awareness

Yosemite is alive with movement—mule deer grazing, wildflowers blooming, light shifting across stone. Our material palette reflects that dynamism with natural elements: FibreGuard’s Raptor Plain Green upholstery evokes pine needles and shaded foliage. Terrace Winter Gold by Tarkett captures the golden hue of California grasslands. Botanical art and matte finishes—like the Black Rough stone Laminate by Ecolam—bring texture without gloss, grounding the space in natural rhythms.

Conclusion: Design That’s Grounded in Legacy

Yosemite inspires us to design for the long haul—to make spaces that feel grounded, intentional, and alive. By layering sustainable materials, honoring natural rhythms, and designing with reverence, we translate Yosemite’s enduring beauty into interiors that feel as timeless as the landscape itself.

Stay tuned to find out which park we travel to next week!
