Christmas is a time of joy and glee, and a lot of that holiday spirit comes from the festive decorations! If you’re anything like us, being surrounded by Christmas trimmings puts you right in the mood for all things cheery and bright. Unfortunately, decorations (along with most other things around this time of year) can cost a lot. We have compiled a few tips on how to have your holiday ambience while keeping your pockets full.
Focus on Public Spaces
Christmas is arguably the greatest of all holidays. Did you know that 46% of Americans prefer Christmas over all other holidays? It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we want to submerse our entire homes in Christmas décor! Sometimes, budget holds us back from this. Our advice is to focus on the “public spaces” within your home. The rooms that guests see, and you spend most of your time in, are the areas that you want to put your focus into. Bedrooms and bathrooms are an awesome bonus, but generally we suggest concentrating on porches, entry ways, and living rooms.
Use What is on Hand
As discussed in our blog “Seasonal Decorating Simplified”, many adornments are multi-use items. Those pinecones from your fall décor look just as festive surrounded by miniature Christmas trees and bulbs! Candles, lanterns, and baskets can all be repurposed by adding some garland, ornaments, or bows! It is always smart to look through decorations from past years as well. Even if you are planning on switching things up a bit, many pieces can still coordinate with a new holiday color scheme and style.
Get Creative
Christmas crafts are great for bonding with family and friends. Get together a little early and make some DIY decorations! Bouncy balls and a small pot turn into quick oversized ornaments. Some ribbon and twine can quickly become a gorgeous wreath! There are a million different ways and tutorials on how to make festive décor. Examine an item you like and make it your own. The possibilities are endless! If you run out of your own ideas, Pinterest is a Godsend for DIY ideas!
