The color of your trim and baseboards is something that is often easily overlooked. It feels like a minor detail but can actually make a world of difference in the overall feel of your space. White is the most commonly used color for trim/baseboards for a number of reasons. It is a classic color that contrasts well with almost every colored paired next to it. Likewise, it doesn't distract from other features that are in your space, such as other wall colors and furniture. Below, I want to discuss the most popular and my favorite white trim/baseboard paint colors.
Before the Color
Before we jump into the exact color choices, I want to discuss two other important considerations that will help you find the right color. 1. Consider color temperature. All whites have undertones and these are a huge consideration based on the other colors in your space. Does your home pull warm or cooler tones? Typically homes that have gray, blue, or black colors pull cooler tones. That doesn't always mean your home feels cold, if done right cooler colors can be complimented well to make the space feel perfect. Likewise, brown, yellow, and beige colors are warmer colors. If your space's color palette is mostly warm tones, choose a white with warm undertones and vice versa with cooler colors. 2. Think about how your family functions and what that should mean for paint finish. Semi-gloss is by-far the most commonly used finish for trim/baseboards. It reflects light within a space very well, allowing just enough attention to be drawn to the baseboards before going elsewhere. But most importantly it is easy to clean and hard to chip making it my favorite.
My Favorite True White
Sherwin Williams High Reflective White: 7757
This is a true white which means it does not have any prominent undertones. It will look extremely clean and will add an extra level of contrast that other shades of white don't. Finally, it will highlight your wall color by nicely framing the walls which it surrounds.
My Favorite Subtle White
Sherwin Williams Snowbound 7004
This is another stunning choice for baseboards and trim. As discussed earlier, this choice does have warm undertones, almost beige, and will compliment a space with a warm palette very nicely. It is a wonderful choice for someone with brown floors. This can be anything from hardwood, to LVT, to carpet.
Choosing the right color for your baseboards and trim is essential to crafting a beautiful space. Take the time to consider how you want your space to feel and make paint selections from there. As always, I am happy to answer any of your design questions, simply reach out via my website.
