Over the last couple of years, the minimalist lifestyle has become an extremely popular way of living. There is something aesthetic about having a bare space with clean lines. I don’t know about you but one of the biggest issues I run into from time to time is having way too much stuff. Eventually it piles up and takes over. Then, when that happens it controls the entire space, to where there is clutter everywhere. Most of the time people do not know how to fix it and it becomes very overwhelming. Here are some simple ideas to make a space more minimalistic.
Edit Your Accessories
The most difficult thing about having too much clutter is not knowing what to do with it. Say you have five potential pieces that you think would look good in the space. Place all five and then take away two of the pieces and use the other three. Whatever is left over or crowding the area will only take away from your overall design. Keep the things that make you really happy and donate the rest that don’t. Keep what you need, not what you want.
Different Spaces, Different Emotions
At the end of the day memories are created in a home. Whether it be from sharing time with loved ones or even being by yourself. When you put thought into it and plan out a space, you will find it is about the emotions and connections that are made. It is important to ask what do you want to get from this space? You will remember the memories that have been made more than physical things. Minimalistic spaces can also be relaxing, since there is not a lot going on in the room to overwhelm someone. That is part of the reason why this style has become so popular.
Add Some Texture
Sometimes a space that strives for a minimalistic look bare and empty. However, there are many things to make the space look more interesting and inviting, it is just a matter of doing them. Here are some ways to add a pop to this space. Incorporating textures is important for the minimalist look. Texture can be added with different rugs, knitted throws, velvet décor, beaded pillows, wallpaper, woven baskets, etc. The most successful way this can be achieved is with a white base. Then use gray, beige, or any other colors to keep a neutral color palette. Of course, color is never a bad thing, but because a natural color palette is often associated with a minimalist space, we tend to steer in that direction.
