Halloween is just around the corner. Skeletons and tombstones are appearing in yards all around. We love seeing all the embellished homes. The incorporation of each person’s personal style is part of what makes holiday decor so much fun! We want to help you get the most from all the effort you put in, so we have put together a few tips for what you should avoid when decorating for Halloween.
Don’t Be Afraid to Try Something New
When we think of Halloween décor, spider webs, ghosts, and bright orange pumpkins are the first to come to mind. That is fine; those items are tried and true. This year put a twist on them! Pumpkins have a great deal of unutilized versatility. In addition to the traditional carvings, pumpkins can be painted, made into unique planters, or even decorated with ribbons, sequins, and other craft materials to add texture. In fact, revamping any run-of-the-mill decoration with a distinctive touch will have your home a step above the rest!
Don’t Overdo It
Seasonal decorating should follow the same guidelines as day-to-day decorating. Spread decorations throughout the space to avoid chaos. Choose a statement piece to be your focal point. Maybe it is an oversized skeleton or a zombie coming out of the graveyard. Whatever you choose, let it take the spotlight. Having an overabundance of decorations or too many fields of interest will take attention away from any single scene.
Don’t Limit Your Color Palette
We all think of the same two main colors when it comes to Halloween. That doesn’t mean that we need to have a yard or home plastered with orange and black. On average, a color palette consists of three to five colors. If you love orange and black, keep them, but include two or three more colors as well! The accompaniment of metallic colors is good way to escape the mundane. Be bold and steer away from conventional colors all together! Some alternative color palettes that we love are centered around navy blue, deep purple, or even magenta!
