As we near the end of the year, we love to reflect on details from our projects this past year and look to the future. What does the coming year have in store for interior design? What trends are on the horizon that will emerge this next year? One of the most exciting things about this industry is discovering evolving styles and fads. Here are few trends we anticipate journeying with us through 2022.
Earthy Tones
2021 showed society’s need for nature. We saw our spaces become light and airy with a lot of natural colors and tones. This precedence will continue over into the new year with a spin on things. Blonde woods and fair grays and beiges will be swapped with deeper earthy tones. Hues such as cognac, taupe, and sage will bring more warmth to our homes, while interest will come with a variety of textures and patterns.
Functionality
Society as a whole is busier than it has ever been, and we don’t see that slowing down any time soon. Low maintenance practicality is a high priority. Materials such as quartz and performance fabrics will come in for the win with maintenance; while multi-functional furniture will assist in both practicality and functionality. The pandemic has shown us that a lot of our jobs can be done from home, and even though we are now able to return to our office buildings, many people choose to remain working from home. The realization has set in that this is no longer a short-term inconvenience, but instead a long-term (and maybe even permanent) necessity. Fold or hideaway furniture will become more popular in these next few months. Desks that fold into shelves, sofas and sectionals with the ability to rearrange to multiple configurations, and hidden storage areas will allow us to use every bit of space while still keeping things sleek and uncluttered.
Mixing Design Styles
Everyone always talks about “your design style” as if everything you like will fit into one box to check. The truth is most of the time clients’ preferences are a mix of a few related styles. Staying within the inclination to feel comfortable and relaxed in your home, we see the fear of mixing styles becoming a thing of the past. Combining streamlined modern with rustic accents will incorporate the warmth and carefree feeling we want in our space without sacrificing simple and straightforward aesthetics. Curved lines in furniture will add some softness in a fusion with sharp geometric patterns. Ultimately, we will all strive for sophisticated, naturistic, cozy spaces.
