Interior designers often look to cultural and current events for inspiration; fashion and art being two of the biggest influencers of our work. It takes a lot of educated research, experience, and observation to predict what styles and designs will be most prominent. Many trends come and go, while some remain in and slowly but sure become what we know as timeless design.
Natural Elements
As we all know, these days environmental awareness is a significant topic of concern. As the popularity of this topic increases, so will the call for sustainability. Many interior designers already take the extra steps to design sustainably, and as time moves on, we only see this number growing. Large windows unobscured by curtains will remain popular to reduce energy usage. Likewise, the use of natural and sustainable materials and fabrics such as bamboo, natural stone, and linen are a trend we do not see leaving anytime soon.
Neutral Colors
2021 has proved the continued popularity of grays, beiges, taupe, and all shades of white. Typically, we work with clients who want a cozy home that is still visually sophisticated. A base of neutral hues with pops of more exuberant colors is a perfect way to achieve this. Bring added interest in with different textures and patterns. Plants are always a good addition to add some color and life to any space! Neutrals will never go out of style, so keep using them in ways that are new and innovative.
Multifunctional Furniture and Spaces
Covid-19 forced many people to begin working from home. Homes became our offices, and people needed to get creative! Everyone was looking for ways to make the most use of the space they have. Even now that people have begun returning to work, multi-functional furniture and spaces remain popular. Coffee tables that raise to desk height, ottomans that provide storage inside, even offices/guest bedrooms with the use of murphy beds; who wouldn’t want the convenience of that? We are predicting the continued use of multi-functional pieces and spaces in the future.
