Window shades have grown in popularity over the last few years. There are several reasons for this. For example, they don't require as much maintenance compared to drapery. Finding the right shade for any space can be difficult. This is because there are a plethora of options available. Of course, each color has benefits and drawbacks. Today we are going to talk about our go to shades. We will dive into roller shades and the various options they offer.

Why Window Shades 

In recent years, shades have become more popular than drapery. Window shades help shelter direct sunlight and do a better job at controlling temperatures. The minimalist style has taken the design world by storm. This is because less is more when designing. People like things that require less maintenance. For example, you do not need to wash shades in the washer. For drapery, they will need to be washed regularly. However, you can have both drapery and shades. It is all about preference. Depending on what quality brand you go with, shades can last you ten or more years. There are shades that are considered timeless, so they will not need to be changed.

Roller Shades

You see roller shades in commercial spaces and also in residential spaces. Roller shades have been very popular in 2022. The two pictures above are examples of what they look like. People like them for a number of reasons. The first is that roller shades have a clean, minimalistic style and can be customized in many different ways. The colors, texture, and patterns of the material are endless. It also pairs well with any style. Another reason is that there are very minimal light gaps. It can be a lifesaver in the mornings. Next, it rolls neatly up at the top when lowered or raised. Lastly, roller shades are for any type of window, such as bay windows and sliding doors like in the picture above.

Control Options 

A majority of people do not know that there are many ways to raise and lower roller shades. Again, it is all about preference and what is easier for you. The first option is a cordless lift that allows you to pull up or down with a cordless lifting system. Next is the classic cord loop. This allows for the shade to be raised and lowered with a loop cord in either direction. Cord loops are great for bigger windows. Moving on, another option is motorization with a remote; these tend to cost the most. Finally, a retractable cord allows you to pull it down, and the shade goes up to lower it, pulling it slightly to the left.
