Recently, we have noticed an overwhelmingly high preference for LVT or hardwood flooring among our clients. Area rugs make up for the lack of warmth and texture that LVT or hardwood flooring alone hold. Therefore, area rugs have almost become a staple in interior design! It can be confusing trying to decide on the correct rug, but with a little direction from us, you will be on your way to a confident purchase!
Aesthetics
Aesthetics are the most common consideration we see clients make when buying a new rug. Your rug should work well with all the existing elements in your room. Style and colors within the rug should be cohesive with those already in the space. In a simple room, a patterned rug can bring life and interest to the space. Just as a solid rug can bring stability and balance things out a bit in a highly decorated room.
Size
An area rug is utilized to bring intimacy to an area within a room. It ties a group of furniture together into one sitting area. Determine the approximate size by arranging the furniture as you would like to have it and measure the area. The front legs of the furniture should be placed on to the rug leaving equal open floor space around the outside of the rug. If your measurements fall between two customary rug sizes, it is best to choose the larger size.
Functionality
Arguably the most important deliberation, functionality, entails a lot of aspects to examine. Ask yourself questions such as: What kind of activities take place in the room? What mood do I want the rug to bring? What level of maintenance am I willing to put forth? Higher foot traffic may call for a rug with a low pile. Maintenance is easier with a low pile rug as well. However, a higher pile adds a more luxurious feel to the ambiance. Thinking about your wants and needs for your rug and then prioritizing those will set you on the right path to choosing the perfect rug for you, your needs and your room!
